If it’s a stunning wedding reception in Greenwich you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. Once a social hub for the luminaries of London’s literary, artistic and political circles – including William Gladstone and Charles Dickens – this historic tavern is now a highly sought-after wedding venue. Situated on the banks of the river Thames in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, the Trafalgar Tavern boasts all the splendour of the regency period, along with magnificent views across the water and endless possibilities for gorgeous wedding photos.
Built in 1837, this historic building retains all the character and charm of 19th-century Greenwich while offering all the modern comforts you could wish for on your big day. With its many elegant bay windows and canopied balconies, you’ll almost feel as though you’re in the water as you toast your beloved with friends and loved ones before heading to the beautifully-proportioned Nelson Room to indulge in a sumptuous wedding breakfast.
The Nelson Floor, comprising the Nelson Room and Ante Room, is ideal for weddings thanks to its grand décor and complete privacy. Reached by a red-carpeted staircase, which makes for the perfect confetti tunnel, the sympathetically-restored Nelson Ballroom boasts floor-to-ceiling windows (with beautiful views as standard), glittering chandeliers, ornate plasterwork and circular tables that can seat up to 220 guests. The room is also fully licensed to hold Civil Partnership Ceremonies for up to 100 guests. Meanwhile, the smaller Ante Room makes for an excellent break-out area for up to 100 standing guests and comes with its own bathroom and cloakroom facilities.
When it comes to dining, you and your guests can eat, drink and make merry without a care in the world thanks to the Trafalgar Tavern’s many food and drink packages on offer. Menus and prices vary, but you’ll find a range of traditional classics with a modern twist, all of which are presented fully plated on elegant white china and accompanied by freshly baked bread and butter. Standard menus are three courses, though further courses can be added by arrangement. The chefs at the Trafalgar Tavern can also put together selections of arrival canapés and evening buffets in addition to the main wedding breakfast, depending on your requirements.
