Although it’s part of the sprawling Andaz hotel complex next to Liverpool Street station, “high-quality” Miyako doesn’t feel corporate with its clean lines, dark-wood furniture and air of calm efficiency. City workers occupy the tiny room’s “closely packed” tables at lunchtime, attracted by a dozen sorts of sashimi, as well as nigiri sushi, maki rolls and the ever-popular inside-out rolls. There’s also a large choice of bento boxes, including tonkatsu or salmon teriyaki, each served with sashimi, miso soup, rice, fruit and accompaniments – nothing too extreme or outré, but decent stuff at pretty fair prices. The wine list is limited to just seven labels, so go native and choose one of the excellent chilled or hot sakés – or a bottle of Japanese beer.
