A new pub from the owners of No. 197 Chiswick Fire Station, No. 29 occupies an enviable waterfront position in the shadow of Battersea Power Station (now being regenerated). Two terraces – one, a raised belvedere overlooking the Thames – are sure to be popular in warm weather. Indoors, an island bar is the focus of a greige and ocean-blue 1930s-style lounge-cum-diner; downstairs, the Screening Room (resembling an art deco cinema foyer) is more of an intimate cocktail bar. West End pricing applies to drinks of Daiquiri Picante, Rhubarb Julep and Tanqueray 10 Gimlet. Craft ale fans may prefer bottles from Brew By Numbers or Five Points to the unsurprising draught beers. Around 50 wines (from £20) pair well with sharing plates: quinoa and aubergine falafel, perhaps, or spicy crab cakes, plus charcuterie and cheeseboards. For a more substantial feed, try the beetroot and barley risotto, or bavette steak and chips.
