This all day café and wine bar comes with some serious in-built street cred. That’s because Crispin was founded by the team behind two well known London haunts - namely cult Borough Market based Scotch egg company Scotchtails and the popular coffee shop Ludenwic on Aldwych in Covent Garden.
The cool vibe here is evident from the get go, with Crispin being housed inside a uniquely shaped glass and zinc pavilion, located on White’s Row in buzzy Spitalfields, not far from the famous Spitalfields market and only a short stroll into the bright lights of the City and Shoreditch. Founders Dominic Hamdy and Oliver Hiam have designed an all-day menu at Crispin which kicks off with coffee and bacon sarnies from 9am.
At lunch and dinner, guests can choose from a concise menu of snacks and small plates, as well as a selection of fresh pastas and sourdough pizzas. The menu evolves with the seasons, but on a visit here you might expect to try the likes of tinned sardines in olive oil served with sourdough and butter, or perhaps smoked salmon with redcurrant and yoghurt.
From the list of pizzas, you can order the classic likes of a Marinara or Margherita, while there is also the option to spice things up a little with toppings of n’duja or chorizo. Those on the hunt for a bargain can check out the daily-changing dish served with a glass of wine for £10, while there’s also a bar snack menu served alongside craft beers and classic cocktails.
On the weekends, head here to enjoy a brunch menu which includes Merguez sausage with daal and egg, and sweet options such as waffles topped with poached apricots, candied pecans and milk ice cream, all of which can be enjoyed on the 30-cover sunny outdoor terrace.
