The best restaurants in Henley-on-Thames

Perched at the top of a winding hill, The Five Horseshoes is a little out of town and is filled with rustic charm, from its comfort-food menu to the wooden beams and open fires.

Locals are congratulating themselves on this newish rendition of The Bottle & Glass, a quaint inn with a thatched roof and characterful bar, located just a short drive out of Henley. 

Named after George Orwell, who spent his childhood in the area, this brilliant eatery near Henley has been painstakingly realised by the dynamic duo of Ryan Simpson and Liam Trotman. 

Top quality food with eclectic overtones make this country pub a unique find. The quiet village location of Stoke Row is found between Henley on Thames and Reading.

A little out of town but well worth the trip is The Crown at Burchetts Green. Set within a pretty Berkshire village, this family-run restaurant is small in size but big in character.

This 1930's red brick inn is found in. the neighbouring town of Shiplake and offers a cosy setting. Don't be fooled by the rustic setting, the menu is filled with refined British dishes.

This 18th-century pub in Hurley has been transformed into a luxury hotel with a restaurant to rival some of Henley's top gastro pubs. A  hearty British menu and extensive wine list do not disappoint.

Less than a minute's walk from the Thames, Hotel du Vin & Bistro in Henley offers refined French dishes and British classics for both diners and its hotel guests alike.

Situated just outside Henley in leafy Lower Assendon, Luscombes is an attractive eatery that oozes pubby olde-worlde charms with its rustic furniture, warm neutral tones and cosy fireplace.

Offering ‘something to suit all tastes, appetites and schedules’, Harrods first cafe venture outside of London is a must-visit for locals and tourists. Oh, and you can even have your Harrods orders delivered there.

This quaint country pub is hidden just the other side of the Henley bridge and serves a traditional British menu. Eclectic decor and a recent refurbishment create a cosy setting.

You can't really beat this restaurant's river views coupled with a spectacular menu, headed up by chef Shaun Dickens. For a worthy fine dining experience head to the Bistro at The Boathouse.
