SquareMeal Review of Yauatcha City

Silver Award

One of the standouts on Broadgate Circle’s foodie hub, this deceptively large offshoot of Soho star Yauatcha makes an immediate impact with its stunning interiors and white marble bathrooms, although the biggest gasps are reserved for the sweeping curved glass wall that follows the contours of the building. Highlights from the line-up of meticulously crafted dim sum include spicy Szechuan pork wontons and warm, crunchy venison puffs, while bigger plates range from truffle pork belly ribs and stir-fried beef rib-eye with sticky black bean sauce to steamed halibut with chilli and salted radish. Yauatcha is also known for its gorgeous desserts at the patisserie counter. It’s undoubtedly expensive, although those in the know rave about the “fantastic-value” ‘Weekend Yum Cha’ offer. In fact, fans think Yauatcha City is “just divine” – despite high decibels and close-packed tables.

Fancy Chinese and Dim Sum restaurant

Service can be slow at times as when the restaurant is full. It was very noisy when we visited post lock down.

It is lovely to sit out on the terrace when the weather is sunny.

Many good vegeteritan dim sums available.

Food presented well, very good tasting, decor peaceful feeling and ambience just right. Had the Tasting Menu with a cocktail, definitely worth the money. Have been a few times. On both occasions had to take remainder of food home as there was so much. So enjoyable and would have been very sad if I could not take this home with me.

The food and cocktails are amazing, excellent service. Really nice desserts, nice ambience. We hosted an event out on the roof terrace and had such a nice time. My favourite restaurant in London for an event or for a sit down meal!

High life
Times have changed. Twenty years ago, when I was first in London, in this venue men in pinstripes drank champagne while overlooking an ice rink. Now, the clientele is more diverse, the food multiple notches better, although the views more depressing. Hopefully the scaffolding surrounding much of the Broadgate complex will be gone once Crossrail is complete and then diners can get to appreciate better this outpost of Alan Yau’s ever-expanding empire. The impressive thing about Yauatcha is that its quality remains undiminished and remarkably consistent across branches. My comrade for lunch was a regular visitor to this venue and ordered dim-sum off the menu without consulting it (an impressive feat in itself) while leaving one dish at the discretion of our attentive server. Each arrived promptly, with perfect presentation and that remarkable ability good dim-sum has to taste flavoursome and succulent despite being light in texture – you just want to eat more. Venison and prawn options won my vote on this occasion. Lychee martinis proved an inspired choice with which to accompany the food, although a wide range of teas and wines are also on offer. Clearly such an experience does not come cheap, but it is worth every penny.

Really enjoy the food here and it never disappoints. Use it a lot for client entertaining - especially at lunch where you can simply order a set menu and get on with business.

Amazing !!! If you are thinking of going you must :)
This is my second time at Yauatcha City and both times received great service from staff. I ordered the champagne prawn and scallop dumplings - still dreaming of them ! 5 star For mains I had Singapore noodles with chili prawns then macaroons for dessert. Its impossible to order something which is not delicious :)

A good experience
My friends and I really enjoyed our dinner here last night but I would prefer coming here for lunch rather than for dinner. The staff are attentive and informative. Service is really good. In terms of quality of food, we loved the scallop shui mai, the scallop was perfectly cooked and the meat was tender. We also tried the hand pulled noodles which I was not too impressed about...the quality of the noodles is not as good as I expected. It tasted like ordinary noodles rather than hand pulled. I am not sure if it should be freshly made as I expected?!?! The overall experience was good though I would return but for lunch and not dinner.
