Out of the same stable as La Favorita and Divino Entocea, this capacious 200-cover Italian on two levels is pitched right next to George IV Bridge in Edinburgh’s Old Town – making it an ideal drop-in for families, tourists and shopper alike. Wood-fired pizzas (including wholemeal and gluten-free varieties) are a headline act on the vast menu, closely followed by almost 20 pastas ranging from spag bol and lasagne ‘di mamma’ to linguine with scallops, squid and sun-dried tomatoes or penne with chicken, red pesto and roasted walnuts. There’s a full contingent of antipasti too, as well as grills and regional trattoria classics such as pork sausages with mushrooms and borlotti beans. Kids have their own menu and there are plenty of gutsy Italians on the good-value wine list – unless you fancy a bottle of Scottish-brewed Innis & Gunn ale.
