SquareMeal Review of The Stable Bar at Boisdale of Mayfair

Silver Award

Opened in late 2016, Boisdale’s Mayfair branch inhabits converted Grade I-listed Queen Anne-style stables. Both its bars sport the firm’s signature look: dishevelled bohemian Edinburgh toff. In the ground-floor Stable Bar, the focus is on craft beers, good wines and an epic whisky collection. The more accessible snifters include douce Speysider, Tomintoul 16-year, at £10.75, though you could pay nearly £3,000 for a 1946 peated malt Macallan. Downstairs, framed album sleeves – Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Dylan – are displayed in the narrow confines of The Old Fashioned Bar. Here, classic cocktails flit around the decades: from Hanky Panky (a 1920s gin, vermouth and Fernet fix), to Penicillin (created at Milk & Honey in the Noughties). Pick of the house signatures at £12.90 is bittersweet beauty, The Sum Of Its Parts (fig-infused Bulleit rye whiskey, dry orange curaçao, plum wine and maraschino liqueur). Feast on fruits de mer, charcuterie or British cheese platters.
