I had a meal with 3 others at The Pig in the New Forest.
The restaurant and the service was excellent however badly let down by the food.
My wife and I each ordered a sirloin steak, her steak was requested as medium cooked and my steak medium to rare - my wife's steak was pretty well exactly the same as mine, ie medium to rare. Neither of our steaks were particularly tender; I managed to chew my way through most of my steak but my wife was not able to. The 3x cooked chips which were served were very salty - too salty for both of us.
I pointed out the condition of the steaks to the staff and we were not charged for my wife's pudding - the pudding was excellent and shevery much enjoyed that. I received a free cup of coffee which unfortunately was only luke warm. In hindsight, maybe we should have asked for my wife's steak to have been cooked more, but doing that always 'casts a cloud' over a meal so we decided not to do this.
So, in summary, The Pig restaurant is a lovely setting, the staff were very helpful and friendly, but the for some reason they were not able to serve properly cooked or tender steak, they over seasoned the chips and were not able to serve hot coffee which all should have been very simple for a high-quality restaurant such as The Pig
