ask the helpful bar staff for some spirited recommendations. The Britannia’s updated interior is all stripped boards and quirky statuettes – plus the odd comfy couch or two – but it makes a
sociable retreat whether you fancy a dram or not. There’s generally at least one real ale on the go (perhaps Bombardier or Adnams Explorer) and the kitchen is kept busy, knocking out ample
helpings of seasonal pub grub. You can also sit outside on the sun terrace when the weather’s fine.
