Effortlessly unpretentious and thoroughly laid-back, The Belgian Arms is a disarmingly charming country pub, complete with a pleasant beer garden looking onto the village green and good food at attractive prices – no wonder the locals like it. The menu doesn’t stray far from the tried-and-tested gastro stalwarts, but the kitchen proves its worth with hearty renditions of chicken livers on toast with a poached egg, Cornish haddock and chips or slow-cooked lamb belly with braised peas and hispi cabbage.
