Alderley Edge’s sparklingly new branch of Piccolino is a sizeable proposition: seating 250 and offering the Cheshire set freshly made juices and breakfast, along with lunch, dinner and an elegant bar. Passion for provenance is clear from the seasonal menu, whether it’s Black Aberdeen Angus dry-aged in the Himalayan pink-salt aging room; wild UK shellfish; or cheeses and salamis from artisan Italian suppliers. Tender grilled asparagus came topped with a perfectly runny poached egg and eye-catching green herby breadcrumbs. To follow, pollo Milanese had its breadcrumbs subtly seasoned with Parmesan and rosemary; and a special of whole line-caught Cornish lemon sole was wonderfully buttery. Pudding of perfectly wobbly, creamy pannacotta was accompanied by sweetly spiced oven-baked plums, while a gorgeously gooey warm chocolate fondant came with salted caramel ice cream. Spacious, polished and featuring an all-year outside terrace (with retractable roof), Piccolino brings a bit of glamour to its locality.
