Here’s a rare find on the City/ Shoreditch border: an indie bar that’s neither hipper than thou nor Square Mile corporate. Momento’s decor – a mix of glitz and bling, cocktail shakers in display cabinets and dark leather sofas – might suggest this low-key lounge bar has been operating since the millennium, but it’s in fact a 2016 newbie. Prices (and friendly staff) are keen: house white (south African Chenin), Italian rosé and red (Nero d’Avola) leave loose change from a £20 note on a list topped by claret and Pouilly-Fumé (£34.50). A dozen selections are available by the glass, and there are bubbles from £5.50 a stem (for Prosecco). Classic cocktails such as Cosmopolitan, Vesper Martini and Bramble cost £8.50. Sagres and Camden Hells head the draught beers, but bar snacks are limited to the likes of nachos and meze. A large, decked, partially covered, back yard is a fair-weather boon.
