About

Handily placed just a short stroll from Princes Street Gardens, this unassuming restaurant parades the virtues of Nepalese cooking against a curious backdrop of stupas, Annapurna posters and Italian terracotta tiles (a throwback to the premises’ former life), with a rather dimly lit dining area at the back. The menu has its share of tikkas, biryanis, jalfrezis and so on, but it pays to invest in the authentic regional specialities – from steamed momo dumplings and aloo tareko (potato and pea cakes with cumin and ginger) to gajar ko halwa (crushed carrots cooked in milk with cardamom and sugar). In between, look for grilled lamb choila, poleko bhale kukhura (chicken marinated with Nepalese herbs in a thick sauce) or hot-and-sour pangasius fish spiked with garlic and chilli. Drink Ghurkha beer or Nepalese tea.
