SquareMeal Review of Esca

After many years as a much-loved neighbourhood café and delicatessen, Esca has matured into a proper restaurant. A sister to the equally loved Eco Pizzeria next door, Esca is a chic, modern space with long communal tables and seats at a copper bar. The orders of the day tend to be platters of fish and meat fresh from the chargrill, as well as cute mini burgers in brioche buns that are freshly baked at their Camden bakery. Cocktails are spot on – they’ve a good range of botanicals to make something really hit the spot – but there’s also a tidy organic and biodynamic wine list too.

A very expensive disappointment

The extra large pizza sandwich is just a pizza base wrap with very meagre filling.VERY expensive and disappointing. Thanks for the reminder that home cooking is always best and takeways nearly always a rip off.

Great place for an informal meal

It's a great place for breakfast with a lot of sweet and savory options, omelettes, English complete breakfast, tarts, cakes and muffins. A brunch is available with at least 6 different salads and also pasta, soup, and other dishes. Drinks and wine also available. Very good service. If you're in the Clapham area, near High Street, don't miss it!

Nice little independent cafe on Clapham High St, with good coffee and tempting cakes/pastries. Shared bench tables make it good for a gang or for sitting unassumingly alone. I wouldn't make a special trip here and I'm not sure it would make a great lunch venue, but definitely the place to pop in for breakfast/coffee/midafternoon tea when you are trying to avoid Starbucks (and why wouldn't you?).
