Pitched right next door to his ultra-civilised Ormer, Michelin-starred Shaun Rankin’s hip new Don Street Deli has the stamp of quality – whether you are indulging in a spot of foodie browsing or filling up with some casual daytime grub. It’s all about plain-speaking, eclectic dishes to eat in or take out. Breakfast promises filled croissants, hot bacon rolls, waffles, croque monsieur and so on, while the lunch crowd pile in for artisan sandwiches and filled flatbreads, colourful salads (perhaps lentils with celeriac, hazelnuts and mint or poached salmon with pickled cucumber) plus soups, the odd cooked dish and all manner of sweet ‘treats’ ranging from clementine drizzle cake to blueberry and banana muffins. Teas, coffees and hot chocolate are the drinks of choice, although you can settle for glass of Jersey milk if you like.
