Over the years the eccentric Crazy Bear group has made quite an impact with a flagship club/restaurant in Fitzrovia, a hotel in Stadhampton and this venue in leafy Buckinghamshire – all known for their “wacky decor” and eclectic assortment of objets d’art, along with restaurants specialising in British and Thai food. Try the latter for “fresh and tasty” classics such as spicy fishcakes, satays, crispy duck salad or classic tom khagai soup, followed by chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves, beef fillet stir-fry or slow pot-roasted pork belly with gailan. The cooking’s spot-on, but what really shinesthrough is the quality of the locally sourced ingredients – especially meat from the owners’ farm in Oxfordshire. The “fabulous atmosphere” is helped along by ever-attentive staff, wines are “exceptional”, and ‘express’ deals (lunch and early evening) are well worth grabbing too.
