Cinnamon Bazaar spices up Covent Garden's foodie hotspot, Maiden Lane, with this appealingly vibrant and relaxed bonne bouche that is Vivek Singh’s [Cinnamon Collection] most casual format restaurant to date. The budget menu revolves around different sized sharing plates, snacks and chaats (street food), with sides such as creamy black dal, mopped up with roti or paratha.

Dishes have settled into a consistently well-executed groove, with recent favourites including: papdi chaat topped with yogurt, watermelon chaat with amaranth seeds, date chutney and masala cashew nuts, and a heart-warming samosa that marries vegetables, curried white peas and a tangy tamarind chutney. For mains, we recommend double-cooked 'Koorg-style' pork belly, succulent and judiciously spiced, if it’s on the menu, and a melt-in-mouth lamb kebab with flaky saffron paratha.

Other innovations include an Indian-style afternoon tea or chaat trolley, as well as cocktails, courtesy of star mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (aka Mr Lyan) – we loved the mango-infused Gin Julep. Colourful drapes and painted walls in the high-ceilinged room recreate the bustle of an Indian market, with plenty of noise and service that is kindly and knowledgeable even when busy.

Lunch Time Set Menu in January
I highly anticipated my birthday lunch at Cinnamon Bazaar, having heard wonderful things about the Cinnamon Restaurant group, and eyeing up the menu numerous times before arriving. My boyfriend and I opted to try the lunchtime set menu so as to get a taste of different things on the menu. At £16 it is extremely reasonably priced for three, very good sized courses. I opted for the lamb kebab, followed by the pork belly curry and finished off with the cardamon creme brulee. My boyfriend ordered the chicken tikka, followed by the cod curry and chocolate cake with coffee icecream. We both really enjoyed our starters, especially the lamb kebab but were let down by the main dishes. I found the pork belly very rich, but without the intense flavours of Indian food that I hoped for. The desserts were pretty good, especially the coffee icecream that came with my boyfriends. Service was very good and the courses were spaced out nicely. It was fairly quiet but this was a Friday lunch in January so I'd imagine many restaurants face this. Overall, not a bad lunch for the price but not as fantastic as I hoped. I'll probably go to Dishoom next time!

Crowded and expensive
Don't get me wrong, the food was good (especially the crab pakoras as a starter), but it was fairly overpriced. The £16 lamb dish was very small. The tables were cramped together, and I was asked to move seats 3 times. I won't be going back..

Indian again
This was my second visit to Cinnamon Bazaar in the few weeks it has been open. This time we took the children who also thoroughly enjoyed the food, Service still needs to pick up a little as we were left having to ask for things a couple of times even though, being a Sunday night, the restaurant was not at all busy. Pricing soon adds up as the chat and starter dishes are too good to leave out. Portion sizes are mixed depending on the dish which can be confusing if trying to split between four. Also some of the dishes such as the lamb come with rice which would have been helpful to know as we didn't need the extra side of rice which we had ordered...no one thought to point that out to us! Overall an enjoyable experience but some things still need to be tightened up to bring it up to Cinnamon club standards.
