Handily placed by Camden Market, with plenty of outdoor seating and views of the Regent’s Canal from its windows, Café Chula dispenses big-hearted Mexican food in a rough-and-ready setting of blue, green and terracotta walls. The menu is basic – a modest selection of tacos, starters and main courses – but the quality is excellent, with none of the stodginess or carb-heavy plates that spoil some Mexican joints. Chicken quesadillas are spiked with pico de gallo, rich braised-pork tacos are balanced with pineapple salsa, and perfectly cooked flank steak benefits from a punchy marinade. To drink, skip the wine list in favour of the margarita-led cocktail line-up, which puts a Mexican spin on the classics (think bloody Maria with el Jimador Blanco Tequila). Otherwise, a bottle of Pacifico or Dos Equis beer should hit the spot.
