Originally a high street that grew up around Bermondsey Abbey in medieval times, before becoming a centre of Victorian industry (and slums), 21st-century Bermondsey Street is as gentrified a stretch of road as you’ll find in London. Having London Bridge station, The Shard and Guy’s Hospital around the corner doesn’t hurt custom.
