Situated in the heart of the seaside town of Whitby, The Willow Branch is a coffee lounge specialising in serving afternoon tea. Everything on offer at this traditional tea room is homemade, so you can be assured you'll be eating freshly baked scones and carefully constructed sandwiches. Offering various hot and cold food options on top of its signature afternoon tea, as well as having an alcohol license, The Willow Branch is more than your average café; come during the morning for a slice of cake and a cuppa or head over later in the day for a glass of wine or Prosecco.
Accessed via stairs up from one of the town’s pedestrianised back streets, The Willow Branch is rather discreet from the outside. The café’s interior is an out-and-out cosy affair with its six tables meaning advance reservations are advisable, while its mint and cream colour scheme give the space and light and airy feel. A small counter plays host to the various cakes available each day giving customers a chance to go up and choose what they want.
The main event at The Willow Branch is undoubtably its afternoon tea, which consists of sandwiches, home-made scones, cakes and a choice of loose-leaf tea, coffee or bubbles. If that sounds like too much for you, there's also the option to downsize things a bit and simply go for a scone sharing platter or a cream tea. Other bites on the menu range from paninis and crumpets to jacket potatoes served with a range of toppings, and even bacon, sausage and eggs if you're feeling like something breakfasty.
As well as the 15 loose-leaf teas and local coffee at The Willow Branch, there's also a wide variety of beers, ciders, and wines on offer, as well as milkshakes in a number of different flavours.
