It sounds a little eccentric, but we promise this isn’t pie in the sky – you really can hire out this pie kitchen for your own private dinner any night of the week! We seriously doubt that private dining in London gets much quirkier or much tastier than this, as The Pie Room at Holborn Dining Room is a one-stop shop dedicated to one of Britain’s most iconic and well-loved dishes.
Spearheaded by Executive Head Chef and pastry expert, Calum Franklin, The Pie Room at Holborn Dining Room is a veritable treasure trove of savoury delicacies by day and a cosy spot in which to enjoy one of two bespoke menus, including a five-course pie tasting menu, by night. Available for private parties of up to 10 guests, this homely space is full to the rafters with pie tins of all shapes and sizes and all manner of kitchen equipment used for pastry-making, so even if you plan to talk about something else, the conversation will inevitably turn to pies at some point. And why not – they’re a thing of beauty and skill, as you’ll soon discover when course number one arrives.
Those dining from the five-course pie tasting menu can look forward to a culinary journey like no other. Things kick off with rabbit, pork and pistachio en croute, served with plum chutney, which is followed by a lobster thermidor tart. You and your pie-loving guests are going to need to pace yourselves though, as soon after that there’s a potato, comté and caramelised onion pie with parsley sauce, and that classic British favourite, steak and kidney pudding. Apple tart tatin served vanilla ice cream ensures the meal ends on a high, though you can elevate it still further by opting for paired wines.
In can be tricky to secure a weekend booking for The Pie Room at short notice, so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.
