Home of the Institution of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street is also a licensed venue for the institution of civil marriage ceremonies and partnerships. The four-domed Edwardian building just off Parliament Square houses 21 flexible event spaces, among which the ground-floor state rooms, including the interconnecting trio of the Brunel, the Smeaton, and the Council, stand out as venues for wedding parties of up to 100. High ceilings and dark oak panelling make the smaller Stephenson Room a grand location for more intimate affairs. Groups of up to 220 should look at taking the Great Hall in conjunction with the state rooms. At the centre of it all, the beautiful grand Portland stone staircase is an obvious photo opportunity.
A dedicated wedding co-ordinator will help couples arrange everything from the cloakroom to the chair covers as well as complimentary tastings of the bespoke menu options curated by the in-house chef. Choose from a selection of hot, cold and sweet canapés with crowd-pleasing favourites including shredded duck in a sesame cone with hoisin, spring onion and cucumber; mini beef Wellingtons wrapped in Parma ham with horseradish Hollandaise; and antipasti skewers with artichoke, sun-blushed tomato and olives.
The wedding breakfast menu also has a wide range of possibilities to choose from all presented with expert culinary flair. From the mains popular choices include roast beef sirloin on a caramelized onion potato cake and chargrilled asparagus, with wild mushroom and Madeira jus; harissa marinated salmon fillet with roasted sweet potato, aubergine and onion with a vibrant coriander sauce; and for a vegetarian option a cannellini bean, seed and mushroom pithivier comes accompanied by chunky glazed carrots, green beans and turmeric herb sauce.
Desserts are equally tempting; baked chocolate fondant comes served with a Morello cherry compote and vanilla ice cream and the baked vanilla cheesecake with elderflower marinated strawberries is a lovely summery option.
