Long known to the film industry for its handsome on-screen appearance, Compton Verney came to the attention of the wider public when it opened as an art gallery in 2004. As well as housing a fine permanent collection, the Georgian mansion is today available for weddings. Even better, its Grade I-listed chapel has recently been restored to its founding glory. The main reception space is the marble-floored Adam Hall – named for Robert Adam, the interior designer whose original flourishes can still be seen throughout the house. Smaller parties can use the ground-floor galleries. Outside, there's a lawn area for marquees and the 120 acres of Capability Brown-designed parkland make the photographer's job easy.
