It's a testament to the London restaurant scene that I had to think hard to find a restaurant that I wasn't overly impressed with but Gordon Ramsey's Union Street cafe was sadly disappointing. Looking at the menu before going, I was excited for some simple but delicious Mediterranean food that packed a punch. The food unfortunately didn't pack the punch I was hoping for at all and was on a par with high street chain restaurants like Prezzo or Carluccios. I don't mean to say the food was bad (I enjoy a Prezzo and Carluccios), it was just underwhelming for a Gordon Ramsey establishment and came along with the higher price tag. You never know, maybe they were having an off day but the restaurant is lovely and the downstairs bar is great so I would be tempted to go back for another try.
Lovely decor and atmosphere wih a beautiful silver Olive tree as a signatory brand. Unfortunately, the food did not meet standards. We had the set menu. From the mains, the sea bass was terribly over salted and had to be sent back. The pea soup was mediocre at best. Chicken thighs were acceptable. This was partially compensated by the really good service / staff and the discount off the bill when they realised we were not happy and apologised as it was a one off event on the chef being off sick.
The service is excellent, the quality of food is great and the dishes;take you back in time. The ambience is relax, i think is value for money.
The service is relax but presice, the food is authentic, old school recipies and quality of ingredients are supreme.

Terrible! Will not be returning.
Arrived to find an all day party was just coming to an end downstairs so that area of the restaurant was closed. We were the only two other diners upstairs and every single member of staff ignored us to deal with the aftermath of the downstairs event. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes whilst the staff all chatted around the entrance, the chefs were all celebrating someones birthday in the kitchen. They seemed to go out of there way to make us feel unwanted and actually blanked us serval times when we asked for help. My partner ordered a drink and i was ignored. Eventually i was served, we were still the only two people in the place with about 6 members of staff all ignoring us. The dirty martini was absolutely awful, wine was ok. Quickly finished our drinks and left. The bar man was kind enough to add a £2.80 service charge to our drinks, what a joke. Complete waste of money and time. Honestly ive never experienced such terrible customer service in a restaurant. Cancelled our table and left very disappointed. Dont waste your time or money in this place.
Usually say away from bistro's or cafes boasting the name of a celebrity chef, this is an exception offering tasty, authentic Italian food with an excellent reasonable priced wine list in a lively, friendly environment. If you avoid the temptation of the white truffle it is pleasantly affordable.
Happy, friendly place to meet and eat great food.
Bad reception, under cooked eggs starter, over cooked fish main, fairly tasteless overall, over charged on bill. The good? Service was excellent and we were refunded the whole bill. Still, I would never return.
What an amazing pop up. We loved the decor and the olive oil cocktails were unique. The bar staff were really friends and it was like being transported to Italy. More restaurants should be as adventurous as this.
Everything great, service, professionalism and good vegetarian selection, wine nice too. Goodo gordan!! :-) ambience is great, good for business meetings.
