Just west of the market town of Wantage, in a pretty village on the edge of the Downs, The Star Inn has been dispensing food and drink for over 400 years. The rustic brick-and-flint building was given a much-needed boost in 2013 when it was taken over by local resident Caron Williams, with Matt Williams as head chef. The latter having worked at Auberge du Lac, Whatley Manor and Claridges’s. Star Inn’s menu is a mixture of classic British and Asian dishes, including Matt’s signature dish of sticky toffee soufflé with salted caramel parfait.
