Billed as ‘Farnham’s hidden gem’, the Spotted Cow is squirreled away in a leafy spot amid four acres of enchanting gardens deep in the Surrey’s commuter belt. At first glance it looks much like a high-rolling ‘des res’, but inside has been opened-up in true dining-pub style. The cooking doesn’t try to emulate pukka gastropub fare; instead it keeps faith with the old guard – think home-cooked glazed ham & fried eggs or sausages with onion gravy, followed by comforting desserts such as spotted dick & sticky toffee pudding. Weekly specials offer a bit more imagination, perhaps sea bass fillets served with lyonnaise potatoes, mint & dill butter. Local ales are on handpump, 10 wines are available by the glass, & the pub welcomes dogs as well as children.
