SquareMeal Review of The Marlborough Tavern

Unrecognisable from its days as a rundown boozer, The Marlborough Tavern has been one of Bath's top-notch gastropubs since it opened under new owners in 2006. With its Farrow & Ball paintwork, textured Victorian-style wallpaper and church-hall furniture, it follows the familiar foodie template – although you can still drop by for a quiet pint. Despite recent changes in the kitchen, there hasn’t been any dip in standards or quality, and the daily menu continues to showcase a great deal of West Country produce from named suppliers. Dinner might open with a plate of char-grilled pigeon breast, celeriac rémoulade, pear syrup and smoked bacon, ahead of Cornish mackerel with salsa verde and chips or a homemade burger. Desserts could feature warm pistachio sponge and blood-orange pannacotta, while lunch offers lighter bites and salads.
