SquareMeal Review of The Ivy Brasserie Spinningfields Manchester

Silver Award

One of the largest restaurants to open in the UK in 2018 with 535 covers, The Ivy Spinningfields is set over four floors with a ground floor brasserie, first-floor private dining room, a second floor Asian bar and restaurant, and a top floor roof garden. While The Ivy brasserie menu is the same as in other cities, with all-day dining from breakfast through to dinner, The Ivy Asia is a new concept for Manchester.

The entire floor is illuminated with a show-stopping green, semi-precious stone floor, set against a striking antique gold mirrored bar, gold-gilt ceiling and luxurious Asian fabrics. The menu is inspired by chef Steve Scoullar’s travels across the continent, and spans raw and cured dishes, dumplings and buns and Robata grilled meat, fish and vegetables. A raw salad is packed with fresh leaves, enoki mushrooms and crunchy daikon, dressed with fragrant coriander, sesame, avocado and miso dressing. Buttermilk fried chicken is perfectly golden, with a spicy kimchi mayonnaise to dip, and crispy duck is stuffed into soft, pillowy bao buns with hoisin and five spice.

Robata grilled black cod is rich and buttery with savoury miso sauce, while Japanese wagyu steak is the real deal, full of flavour, well marbled, meltingly tender and well worth its eye-watering price tag. Puddings include Japanese mochi balls stuffed with vanilla, green matcha tea and black sesame ice creams, while the drinks list features fragrant cocktails and a range of Japanese whiskies. An elegant addition to Spinningfields.

About

Located in the heart of Manchester, the Ivy Brasserie Spinningfields proudly sits within The Pavilion development. The all-day brasserie is a great option for hosting brunches with friends or having a stunning dinner with family, plus the menu of British classics is always a crowd-pleasing affair.

The Manchester restaurant is one of the Ivy Collection largest venues seating over 500 punters within the main restaurant, plus there are some other rooms and a terrace to dine within. The brasserie is spread out of four floors, with the Asian-inspired bar upstairs and a rooftop dining area with stunning views.

The all-day brasserie offers several menus throughout the day, as the venue hosts a weekend brunch and does pre-theatre set menus, in addition to the regular a la carte. Vegetarians and vegans also get their own dedicated menu, replete with plant-based versions of the classic Ivy dishes, such as Shepherd’s pie. Highlights of the dining menu include a starter of tuna fin carpaccio, a delightful visual feast and delectable too. The lobster linguine makes for an indulgent main, generously served with fresh seafood, and for dessert, you won’t go amiss with the apple tarte fine.

For punters looking for a bit more exclusivity, they can book one of the three rooms at the brasserie. The Dalton, The Geisha Room, and the Skylight Terrace, are all wonderful event spaces with unique features. The rooms are ideal for a whole host of occasions, from drinks receptions with canapes to formal dining affairs. Each of the rooms are stunningly decorated to really make your occasion shine, the Geisha is decked out in Asian-inspired décor with a gold leaf ceiling and amazing artwork,  while the Dalston is fitted with vintage furniture and marbled flooring.

The Ivy Brasserie Spinningfields is an excellent option for dining out in Manchester, with the classic menu of British staples and internationally-inspired fare.
