In October 2017 Simon and Samantha Cleary took over The Plough in Great Chesterford, just a couple of miles away from this lovely pub. Things have gone pretty well at The Plough which over the past 3 years has won numerous awards.
In December 2020, in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, a time when nothing seems to make sense, when the world has gone topsy turvy Simon and Samantha were approached to see if they would take on the Ickleton Lion too.
Any sensible person would run away but, in the spirit of Del Boy Trotter “He who dares wins Rodney”, “This time next year we’ll be millionaires” Simon and Samantha accepted the challenge.
We love this building, it is a proper old fashioned village pub nestled in the heart of a lovely semi rural community. Sitting literally on the Essex / Cambridgeshire border the pub is easily accessible from both counties and is not far from junction 9 of the M11.
As any good village pub should, the Lion has an extensive range of beers and wines and enough Gins to keep the most fervent drinker engaged.
