Londoners often complain about how hard it is to secure a table at some of the capital’s most-talked about restaurants, so spare a thought for diners trying to get a table at The Hyde.
Found at boutique hotel Roseate House in Paddington, The Hyde has enough space for just 12 diners. The intimate dining room is a cosy, yet luxurious space which features a gorgeous fireplace, muted grey walls and crushed velvet banquettes. A wall of artwork and gold chandeliers remind you that you are in a smart part of town, but exposed wooden floors and candles on the table add a rustic charm to the restaurant.
Heading up the kitchen is Greek chef Christos Siomadis who oversees a menu of modern European dishes which evolves with the seasons. Siomadis boasts an impressive CV, having previously worked at the likes of Skylon, as well as for the Galvin group who operate Galvin La Chapelle, Galvin at Windows and others.
On the evening menu, you will find starters such as scallop ceviche with avocado sorbet, and beef tartare topped with oyster mayonnaise and served alongside black caviar and crab crackers. When it comes to main courses, expect the likes of corn-fed chicken fillet paired with a miso and black truffle glaze, or pan-fried halibut with squid ink and tiger prawn ravioli. To finish, tuck into a choice from a tempting pudding list that includes chocolate fondant with black sesame ice cream or slow cooked pineapple served with yuzu sorbet.
You can also get your sweet fix during the day, when The Hyde serves a classic afternoon tea. The experience begins with a range of savoury finger sandwiches such as cucumber and cream cheese or pastrami and English mustard mayonnaise. Next up, you can scoff traditional plain and raisin scones slathered in clotted cream and strawberry jam, before finishing up with a selection of sweet treats such as a dark chocolate and raspberry brownie and mango panna cotta tart with green matcha ‘snow’.
