This cosy gastropub in Kemp Town is the latest member of Brighton's much-loved family of Ginger eateries, named in honour of chef/founder Ben McKellar's red hair. Like its carrot-topped siblings,
the Ginger Dog adopts a seasonal stance with simple dishes accompanied by punchy sides & sauces. Winter could bring a starter of ham hock, apple & chestnut terrine with pokey rhubarb
chutney, while mains could run from roast hake with paprika & crispy garlic sauce to a plucky combination of pheasant, Madeira & watercress. These thoughtful flavour combinations are
enhanced by consistent cooking & arty presentation, with plenty of dabs & drizzles on the plate. The quirky interior also catches the eye thanks to bowler-hat lampshades, red-leather
banquettes & retro mirrors. Staff are lovely, prices are keen, & drinks include a good range of Sussex ales & wines.
