Stablemate of Cardiff favourite Woods Brasserie, this beautifully restyled boozer now looks light & bright, with bookshelves & fireside sofas creating a domestic, stay-awhile mood. The Conway still manages to keep the regulars watered with pints of real ale at the bar, although its reputation rests largely with food. The blackboard menu offers a generous choice of modern pub dishes with big flavours – fried squid with chilli, chorizo & tomato sauce for instance, or ham, egg & chips with spicy pineapple compote. You’ll also find bistro-style offerings such as pan-roasted Welsh mullet & cockles on crushed new potatoes & sweetcorn, plus gratifying desserts along the lines of spicy apple cake with cinnamon, caramel & vanilla ice cream or white chocolate & Grand Marnier gratin with raspberries. Well worth a detour, just a short drive from the city centre.
