SquareMeal Review of The Cat & Mutton

Established in 1729, this long-standing fixture of the Broadway Market scene was relaunched in 2014 under the aegis of owner Tom Gibson from Ruby’s in Dalston, and is buzzier than ever. Downstairs is a vintage boozer with enamelled mirrors, taxidermy and a long bar stretching the length of the room, boasting local draught ales and a superior spirits selection. Upstairs is given over to a cosy cocktail bar in similar style, dispensing the likes of a Lemon Curd Margarita or the Cats Catch (cachaça, passion fruit, lemon). Buttermilk-fried chicken sandwiches or aged chuck cheeseburgers with garlic Parmesan fries make up a hearty but hip pub-grub menu, sometimes supplemented by residencies from the latest street foodies. Traditional roasts rule on Sundays, as do the board games helping you beat end-of-the-weekend blues.
