There’s no stopping Omar Allibhoy, who opened Tapas Revolution Shoreditch mere months before this latest restaurant, in Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre. Though he’s keen on surrounding himself with hype, behind it all there’s real quality. Allibhoy is a Madrileño, and his Birmingham bar reflects the bars of his Spanish home – copper-topped, with copper lights above, marble tables and plenty of buzz. Open all day, you can expect Valencian orange juice, coffee and pastries in the morning, at lunch it’s tapas or set deals (paella or a burger with a glass of wine or beer for £7.95) and evenings see sangria with more tapas – croquetas, jamón and the like – of course. In between, there are boccadillos and churros con chocolate. Just the fuel you need for a hard day’s shopping.
