The two owners of this casual Japanese eatery spent five years learning the craft and mystery of sushi before coming to the UK and opening their own gaff. All that training seems to have paid off, because the Sushi Café gets a big thumbs-up for its “tasty fresh food” and very reasonable prices (look out for “discounts mid-week”, advises one fan). The undoubted star of the show is the ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffet – a 50-dish extravaganza aimed at young and old alike (kids eat for half price). As well as an array of expertly crafted nigiri, maki rolls and sashimi, there’s a host of cooked stuff ranging from chicken teriyaki and squid tempura to tofu steaks in dashi, takoyaki octopus balls, katsu curries and ramen noodles in soup. Similar fare is also available on the main carte, alongside more esoteric items such as salmon jaw in salt and Japanese custard pancakes. Bento boxes take the stress out of ordering, and the café does takeaways too.
