About
Lately, Londoners have gone ape for Aperol Spritz, one of the classic drinks traditionally taken by Italians during aperitivo hour – a civilised post-work phenomenon that is gaining traction here, as numerous watering holes start to spread the joy. Russell Norman’s reimagining of the old Marquis of Granby (a landmark Victorian boozer) has recently joined the party, offering a full range of appetising tipples to go with bar nibbles from £3 a pop. The drinks list promises a familiar line-up of well-tried sips – Americanos, Negronis, Bellinis, currently trendy Cynar gin fizz and more besides – while solid sustenance comes in the form of various ciccheti snacks ranging from crab arancini to smoked salmon, dill and horseradish crostini. Like the louche, Dickensian Dive Bar below, the cut-price interior is true to Russell Norman’s distressed lo-fi ethos.
