Pay for the view
I suppose, their main attraction is the outside seating and that is what you should go there to enjoy with friends. I would rate the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen solely on its location. No matter what you eat or drink here, you will have the best time, if the sun is shining brightly and it is a good day to be out on Hyde Park. I haven't been to the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen on a cold and dreary day so I can't comment on what it would be like.
The prices are on the expensive side given the quality you of food you get. A chilled jug of Sangria or cold beer and plates of finger food is what they do best. Their desserts as well as the pizzas are mediocre. Somehow the view of the Serpentine lake, a refreshing breeze and the sun on your back makes the food taste better. Somewhat like a picnic by the lake in summer.

We had a great time here recently as a lively party of six.
Wonderful views, food and ambiance.
The staff were friendly and knowledgable and gave us some great stories about working and living in London.
Natural comedians!
We don't visit London often, but we'll certainly return to eat here.

At a table of 9 we had a terrible experience waiting over an hour for any food at all. It was then brought out in batches of 1-3 dishes with 10-15 min gaps in between. In the mean time many other tables were served and left.
So the rather than allow food to go cold we all ate separately. In the end the last 2 dishes didn't appear at all. One pizza was burnt around the edges. When we asked for a manager he said nothing at all, no apology whatsoever, at which point we refused to pay. We finished what food had arrived and left without paying.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, it was deeply disappointing.

The perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon!
Once you have got over the slight confusion when entering (you need to find a table and then queue to order your food and drinks at the bar) The Serpentine is fantastic, offering good, wholesome British food.
Really good value and a ‘cut above’ for a park ‘cafe’, you can either grab a sandwich and cakes, or order great pizza's from the wood burning oven, and excellent salads.
If the sun's out you need to grab a deck chair (which are dotted around), order some wine and relax by the Serpentine.
Excellent.

We visited on a hot day recently and were struck by the outside park people allowed to wander in and use the toilets – also coming up to the service area in their sunbathing attire etc – bare chests etc.
Can this be looked at please?
The Grand Piano should be used more and preferably locked as it will get “knocked about” by less experienced music lovers etc.
