From the people behind the eponymous mozzarella bar and deli – now ensconced in its new Corn Exchange home – Salvi’s Cucina is a more expansive space with the same dedication to Italy’s good stuff. It’s informal, with bright wood and raffia seating, potted herbs on the tables and full-length windows opening on to John Dalton Street. In the spirit of Naples, there’s an extensive fritti selection: ricotta fritters, fried salt-cod and arancini, for instance, to be followed by a selection of the real deal in mozzarella delivered from Campania. Pizzas include the paesana, with wild broccoli and Italian sausage, while purists might try pasta with pecorino, black pepper and lardo, or white beans and mussels. Wines are all Italian, with plenty under £30. Further up the street at No. 27, Salvi’s Rosticceria is a Neapolitan-style takeaway with a handful of seats and a nice line in pizza and fried snacks.
