There are hints of St John’s famed nose-to-tail cuisine at this weekdays-only, daytime canteen attached to the A Foundation studio complex and run by Michelin-starred Fergus Henderson’s wife, Margot. But there’s nothing too brutalist about the terse daily menu: think cauliflower, leek and rocket and rocket salad, rabbit terrine and sturdier mains such as roast chicken with lentils, greens and pink radicchio or grilled lamb with green sauce, followed by blood orange mess, chocolate brownies or pavlola. Meanwhile, breakfast plays with a straight bat, offering the likes of granola, ‘a bowl of boiled eggs’ or toasted sandwiches. Unlicensed, but you can bring your own wine or refresh yourself with Chegworth Valley juices while soaking up the laid-back atmosphere in this quiet part of the East End. The venue can also be booked for special ‘feasts’ and private events.
