About

It may not have occurred to you, but pre-PimpShuei, London had no bar catering to hardcore kung fu fans. So says Slash, Chinese co-owner of this chopsocky dive. A 70s Harlem hustler soundtrack, loud murals, lurid film posters, retro arcade games and (inset in 80s ghetto-blasters, turned TV sets) action films of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chia-Hui Liu et al, set the scene for Slash’s own low-budget fantasy. Beers include Tsingtao and Asahi: what else? Pimped-up hooch served with fortune cookies favours Sino-Japanese Slings, Sours, Hurricanes and Highballs, called Wong Island, Bangkok Dangerous and the like. Pat Mojita [sic], made with Kraken rum, maraschino and aloe vera juice, tastes like retro bubblegum Bazooka Joe, but delivers a karate chop to the head.
