At this beautifully refurbished, 12-bedroom Edwardian manor house, with lovely views of the Torbay coastline, the menu has moved on greatly in the past couple of years. Dishes are now classics
based on the best local produce, be it locally caught fish, Devon beef, or vegetables grown in the kitchen garden. At lunch the focus is on light options, such as fishcake with poached free range
egg & chive beurre blanc or broccoli risotto with Dartmouth oak smoked salmon, while more complex cooking emerges in the evening. Tian of Dartmouth crab & avocado with a tomato vinaigrette,
followed by fillet of aged South Devon beef with braised celeriac, pan-fried foie gras & port jus, then prune & Armagnac souffle for dessert are highly recommended. Service is sweet,
there’s a decent selection of wines &, though prices aren’t cheap, diners are encouraged to linger to fully enjoy the experience.
