Hoping for a follow-up hit to their Clapham Old Town venue, the owners of Venn Street Records decided to replicate the formula in Battersea. Housed in a former pub, Northcote Records’ austere decor is perhaps more reminiscent of a dowdy provincial sheet-music store around the time of Vera Lynn, but no matter – its slamming mix of current cult cuts, revived 45s and sporadic live music is more fun than Radio 1. Kick off the party with house cocktails such as elderflower Collins, Rasputin’s vanilla mule or a ‘guilty pleasure’ – perhaps blue lagoon or Tequila sunrise (‘paper umbrella optional’). Top of the popping corks is Prosecco at £29, while Brussels Kriek and Palm are among the beers climbing the charts. To eat, try various 10-inch pizzas.
