Wahaca will open its eighth venture at London’s Southbank Centre this June to coincide with the
Festival of the World, which will see the venue transformed into a bustling port city filled with street art and installations.
The two-storey, temporary restaurant will be built from recycled shipping containers, with a 130-seater dining room, plus a bar and terrace. The site will be decorated with street art, murals and
graffiti. It will sit on the terrace of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, overlooking the river.
The menu will comprise seasonally changing Mexican specials, and guest chefs will cook for diners throughout the restaurant’s residency, from June to September. The kitchen will work on an
experimental basis, introducing new flavours and ideas to the menu as they are developed; customers’ favourite new dishes will be introduced in Wahaca’s other branches later this year.
