Burger & Lobster, the recession-busting offshoot of Goodman steakhouse, has announced its purchase of the
capital’s two Bistro du Vin sites, in Clerkenwell and Soho.
Burger & Lobster’s original venture in Mayfair has been a critical and commercial success since it launched in January. Operating a no-bookings policy and serving only three dishes – the house
burger, whole steamed or grilled lobster, or a lobster roll, all priced at £20 – it has wowed diners with its quality, value and slick service.
Goodman hopes to turn its Soho acquisition (on Dean Street) around in time for the Olympics, while the Clerkenwell venue (on St John Street) will be launched later this year. What’s more, it is
understood that both venues are considering taking some bookings.
Bistro du Vin was launched in 2011 under the Hotel du Vin umbrella, with the owners intending to expand the brand to 10 venues by 2014. But the project has been shelved, with the management
pledging to concentrate on the hotel side of the business.
