Lose Weight And Get Fit With Tom Kerridge: Everything you need to know

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge has been keeping busy lately, what with his opening of Kerridge’s Bar & Grill at the Corinthia Hotel London last year, the successful completion of his star-studded foodie festival Pub in the Park in June, and now, a new TV programme for the BBC.

It’s not the first time the Michelin-starred chef has appeared on TV with his health-conscious approach to cooking. The Hand and Flowers chef (the Marlow-based gastro pub that has earned him two Michelin stars) already impressed the nation with his Tom Kerridge’s Lose Weight For Good programme in 2018, where he let viewers in on how he lost an incredible 12 stone through changing his diet and cutting out booze.

A year after, he returned to screens with his Tom Kerridge’s Fresh Start, where he embraced proper home cooking (still with a healthy focus). Now, in a new six-part series, the Gloucester-born chef is back, determined to shed more weight, after feeling the pounds creeping back on.

Explaining his reasons for embarking on the new TV series, Tom said: “I lost a load of weight a few years ago but lately I’ve seen it creeping back up. And I’m not as fit as I want to be at my age.  So I’ve set myself and a gang of volunteers a challenge for the TV series – to lose weight and get fit together.”

In the series, which will be a lot more personal than his previous programmes, Tom is returning to Gloucester, where he grew up, to speak to the family and friends who shaped his childhood. He has invited 11 volunteers to join him in losing weight on the show over the course of two months, through good cooking habits and exercise.

He wants to show the nation that by avoiding boring and unappetising food (which he believes is the formula for failure), diet success is possible through easy-to-cook recipes. These include family favourites as well as crowd-pleasers that are packed with flavour and nutrition.

The diverse group of volunteers will include people ranging from the age of 20 to 60, all with different fitness goals. From losing weight after having a baby and being stronger and fitter for the sake of their children, to reducing high blood pressure and tackling diabetes, the programme will showcase different ways to diet.

To correlate with people’s New Year’s resolutions of becoming healthier, the TV show will air in early 2020 and will follow the publication of the cookbook Lose Weight & Get Fit by Tom Kerridge: 100 high-flavour recipes for dieting and fitness, which launches in December 2019. Kerridge’s cookbooks (he published two alongside his other BBC programmes, too, among many others) have sold more than 1.3 million copies to date.

Tom added: “For me, losing weight was less about reaching a target weight and more about getting fitter and healthier. I reckon that setting fitness goals alongside weight-loss goals is a win-win formula for lasting success – and here are the recipes to help you.”
