Chef Angela Hartnett (above) is set to open a second Café Murano this June. The new site, on Tavistock Street in Covent Garden, will join the original St James’s Street restaurant, which opened in 2013.

Café Murano Tavistock Street will take a simple, seasonal approach to northern Italian food and the menus and wine list are inspired by Hartnett’s recent trips to Italy. Hartnett has appointed a new head chef, Richard Lloyd, who was formerly sous chef at Hartnett, Holder and Co in Hampshire. The new restaurant will also feature a food and wine shop specialising in freshly prepared pasta, sauces and Italian wines, all to take away.

Hartnett said, ‘This area of London is cultured but laid back and that chimes completely with our approach to dining. I am looking forward to working with Richard, whose maturing talent I have witnessed at Hartnett, Holder and Co, and to making Café Murano Tavistock Street a unique and valued addition to the area.’

The menu will have a particular emphasis on the coastal regions of northern Italy and the wine list will be all Italian. Cocktails will specialise in Italian spirits and interpretations of classics.

The 140-cover restaurant will be set across two floors, designed by Russell Sage Studios, with a marble bar for counter dining the focal point.
