Diners with a taste for Michelin-starred menus can now indulge in food by master chef Michel Roux Sr without breaking the bank.

The founder of The Waterside Inn – the only UK restaurant that has consecutively carried three Michelin stars for the past 25 years – has developed a series of ‘meal kits’ that allow time-pressed food lovers to prepare their dinner in less than 10 minutes with zero preparation and minimal washing-up.

All the ingredients are included in the kit and come washed, chopped and weighed out. The range – called Scratch – aims to combine the healthy balance of a home-cooked dish with the ease of a ready meal.

Roux said even chefs in Michelin-starred kitchens want an easy life when they’re cooking for themselves. ‘When I’m cooking at home, I don’t want to slave away in the kitchen for hours,’ he said.

The company, founded by entrepreneurs Phil Pinnell and Alex Neves, will roll out its meal kits in Sainsbury’s Local stores from 25 April. Dishes include tagliatelle pistachio pesto with cherry tomatoes, and Thai green chicken curry with bamboo shoots. It won’t be on a par with a meal at The Waterside Inn, but at least it will have Michel Roux Sr’s seal of approval.
