Champagne for Valentine's Day

Britain's love affair with pink fizz continues, fuelled by big steps forward in quality as many of the major producers have invested in better red winemaking facilities over the past decade. Laurent PerrierThe result is less acidic, softer, more approachable, fruit-driven styles, epitomised by Moët's best-selling Brut Impérial. While rosé styles of Champagne now have year round appeal, the close association between all things pink and Valentine's Day is inescapable. And retailers' shelves are stacked high with special presentations in glitzy packaging for lovers to find the perfect gift for their partners.

One of the most stylish novelty offers this year comes from those clever marketers at Veuve Clicquot whose soft, creamy textured rosé is a delightful drink. 'Scream Your Love' through their shocking pink loud hailer which then upturns to double as an ice bucket to chill your Champagne to the perfect, not too cool, drinking temperature. (Selfridges, £64.99). Veuve Clicquot

Perrier Jouet Keeping it cool strikes a chord with Perrier-Jouët whose artistic collaborations continue in the shape of the Enchanted Nature case for its Blason Rosé cuvée whose distinctive and fitting Art Noveau design – this is the house of Belle Epoque – has been created by designer Tord Boontje. It's housed in an opaque cylinder box whose isothermal properties keep this delicately fruity, floral Champagne at the ideal temperature. Billecart-Salmon's acclaimed rosé styles, its elegant, beautifully-balanced brut and the classy vintaged luxury cuvée Elisabeth Salmon, are much sought after. Billecart is running a promotion with selected retailers (including ChampagneDirect.co.uk, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Fortnum & Mason, Amathus Drinks) whereby if you buy a bottle of its Brut Rosé, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru or newly released 2006 vintage you receive a complimentary half bottle of its NV pink to enjoy à deux.

If you want to go large, and who doesn't, why not trade up to a magnum and enjoy all the associated benefits of the larger format – extra freshness, more nuances of flavour and an innate superiority over its 75cl counterparts, coupled with the sheer theatre when the cork is drawn. Champagne Jacquart has just the wine to please with its limited edition magnum Mosaïc Rosé NV, a specially created blend based on the fine 2009 vintage with reserve wines from the three previous harvests, adding up to a harmonious treat.
