Shiny and sexy with its twinkling lights and neon yellow, Neighbourhood takes its inspiration from Manhattan but is very much a product of new Manchester. This neighbour to Artisan and Manchester House is a glam, cocktail-led spot, with bow ties not uncommon among bar staff who work from a list plush with Negronis and aged spirits. They can even age drinks in-house, or send you home with your own spirit and cocktail-ageing kit. Food certainly has a New York flavour to it, incorporating Parmesan beignets with a punchy grain-mustard dip, a crackle-and-pop shrimp starter and mac & cheese in truffle, bacon or lobster variations. You can go light, with miso-marinated black cod or something from the raw bar, but the all-encompassing approach to luxed-up junky American classics is hard to resist – even in a venue that’s built on appearances of the sleekest kind.
